Liner Notes

Did you ever wonder what the musical greats of yesterday would think of the performances of today's artists? Many changes have taken place. I am the luckiest of souls to have survived. Having been privileged to record with Billie Holiday, I feel blessed to have had this opportunity to record with the talented Ranee Lee. By interjecting her personality and intimate feelings into the "candlelight" versions of the songs, Ranee has transformed them into "electromagnetic radiation" renditions. After researching and studying her craft, she bridged the gap and reached a well-deserved plateau of respect in the musical world.

Ardent fans of Billie and listeners of all generations will enjoy the unique talent of Ranee Lee on "Deep Song". It is a radiant listening experience.

Envision a scene "up there" where Billie is putting her stamp of approval on Ranee’s phrasing, intonations, and magnificent performance:

Teddy Wilson is smiling with approval as he listens to the dexterity of Oliver Jones...

Barry Galbraith is applauding the technique of his former student, Richard Ring...

Ben Webster is praising Richard Beaudet's execution on sax and flute...

Jo Jones is turning to tell Ben about the masterful way Archie Alleyne is backing up the group...

Jimmy Blanton is making mention of how kind Father Time has been to me. Also, Jimmy is paying tribute to Vic Angelillo and the fine string section...

I am confident that all of the musical greats of yesteryear and of today think the performances of the artists on "Deep Song" rate 5 Stars.
