Album Details

David Clayton-Thomas’s career is a remarkable musical journey, an amazing story that began with transformation from a Canadian bar room rocker into one of the world’s successful performers and songwriters, chalking up sales in excess of 30 million albums to date. Clayton-Thomas has survived more than four decades on the road; he’s played everywhere, from beer joints to amphitheatres, and performed with a stunning array of music’s greatest acts, from John Lee Hooker to Aretha Franklin. Based once again it Toronto—his boyhood turf and the city in which he feels more at home—and with his thirty-five year role as the lead man in Blood Sweat & Tears now behind him, David has launched an 11-piece jazz/rock fusion band under his own name.

In Concert was recorded live at Toronto’s Opera House on October 26th and 27th, 2005. It’s a musical biography of sorts, reflecting the history and legacy of an incredibly prolific career. The album is comprised of songs Clayton-Thomas either wrote or performed with Blood Sweat & Tears—from ’60s classics like “Spinning Wheel” and “Go Down Gamblin” to ’70s and ’80s hits like the bebop gem “Gimme That Wine”—as well as songs culled from David’s recent Justin Time recording, Aurora (2005)—the Billie Holiday-penned “Don’t Explain”, and David’s own “Wild Women & Po’ Boys”.
