Album Details

Jazz, R&B, folk, pop, soul, reggae - Coral has explored them all, and it’s that eclectic approach to music that has shaped the sounds found on both My Favorite Distraction and its successor, Magnify, again produced by Charles Papasoff. Coral’s is a unique, hybrid style, accented by bittersweet melodies and a certain solemnity, but lifted by a healthy dose of humour and observation. Her incredibly personal songs have lyrics to match, and while firmly rooted in her jazz heritage, Coral incorporates such a wealth of sounds on her recordings that pigeonholing her to a particular genre is difficult.

Coral Egan’s Justin Time debut, My Favorite Distraction was one of 2004’s most assured, unpretentious, mature and refreshing recordings, and it marked the debut of a major talent.
The recording went on to scan over 22,000 units in Canada, winning many new fans and wide critical acclaim along the way.

The recording features performances by some of Montréal’s finest musicians, including drummer Tony Albino, bassist Al Baculis and singer/guitarist Jay Atwill, who also co-wrote a number of the songs.
