Album Details

Thomas Hellman, is the son of a Texan father and a French mother. Born and raised in Québec, this promising 29 year old singer/songwriter has been writing songs in both english and french over the past decade. He's garnered as much praise from the anglophone press as he has from the francophone, and he's been variously described as "a major discovery" (Le Devoir), "a gypsy as crazy as he is talented" (Monique Giroux, Radio-Canada), and "the best-kept secret in Montreal" (Ici).

Hellman won the Prix OFQJ-Rideau in 2003 and was nominated for the Prix Félix Leclerc in 2004. For this, his second album, this intriguing urban poet has teamed up with producer Jean Massicotte (Pierre Lapointe, Lhasa, Arthur H, Jean Leloup). Supporting Hellman are his longtime cohorts Olaf Gundel (voice, guitar, keyboard); Tommy Babin (double bass & electric bass); Remi Leclerc (drums & percussion), and several guests, including Érik West-Millette (double bass, electric and slide basses); guitarists Jordan Officer, Yves Desrosiers and Bernard Falaise; violinist Francis Covan, and drummer Simon Meilleur.

Exploring the areas between the American folk tradition and French song, Thomas Hellman's Justin Time debut recording showcases new songs that are both heartfelt and inspired. The conviction brought to his songs, combined with his unstoppable energy and the quality of the music and lyrics, together create a winning combination that's as unusual as it is refreshing.
