Italian pianist Roberto Cipelli created this inspired homage to French songwriting giant Léo Ferré. The intriguing twist is that it’s rendered by his fellow countrymen - not a Frenchman among them - and the musicians are from the jazz realm: bassist Attilio Zanchi, drummer Philippe Garcia, and guest trumpeter Paolo Fresu. As icing on the cake, singer Gianmaria Testa is also invited, with typically marvelous results.

If Chet Baker, Richard Desjardins and Paolo Conte had collaborated, it may well have sounded like this. Highly recommended listening.
