Album Details

Pianist David Virelles is a native of Cuba who’s been based in Toronto for a number of years. This recording is the result of having won the GM Grand Prix du Jazz (the highest honour) at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal in July 2006.

It’s an exceptionally fine debut, and features his Quintet comprised of David Virelles, piano; Luis Deniz, alto saxophone; Devon Henderson, acoustic bass; Ethan Ardelli, drums; Luis Orbegoso, percussion. It also features guests Mark Turner (tenor sax); Celso Machado (voice and gimbri); David’s father, José Aquiles (vocal); and Pablosky Rosales, tres guitar

David Virelles, natif de Cuba, habite Toronto depuis plusieurs années.Il fait aussi partie du groupe de Jane Bunnett.

Cet enregistrement résulte donc du fait gagné le Grand Prix GM du Festival Int’l de Jazz de Montréal, version 2006.

Le disque met donc en vedette son excellent quintette composé de LUIS DENIZ, DEVON HENDERSON, ETHAN ARDELLI et LUIS ORBEGOSO.

Il y a en outre plusieurs invités dont MARK TURNER sur 3 pièces.
