Album Details

At age twenty-five, Chet Doxas is one of Canada’s most acclaimed young jazz musicians, accomplished as a saxophonist, a composer and an arranger. Raised in Montreal, Chet has played on over eighty albums with various North American talents. He’s recorded and contributed compositions for numerous film soundtracks in Canada, the USA, and in France. His own quartet has recorded for CBC’s “Jazzbeat,” and most recently Chet’s playing was featured on the Academy Award and Grammy nominated soundtrack of “Les Triplettes de Belleville,” composed by his friend Benoit Charest.

Sidewalk Etiquette is Chet’s highly anticipated debut as leader, and was recorded with Zack Lober (bass) and Jim Doxas (drums), band mates since high school (and who collectively are known as Byproduct), as well as pianist John Roney. Chet’s original compositions bear many ‘beyond jazz’ influences and infuse elements of rock, fusion and classical music, making for listening that’s imaginative and driven. In short, this is highly enjoyable, exciting, accessible contemporary jazz.
