Album Details

The church has had a huge impact on the evolution of jazz and this recording pays tribute to some of the great musicians who knew that their music came from a higher and loving place - Duke Ellington, John Coltrane and Cedar Walton among them. - P.J. Perry. Come Sunday is the very first recording of the Perry/Riley duo, although the artists have always hoped for such a collaboration. This is a collection of carefully chosen and wonderfully delivered inspirational compositions in the jazz idiom. The intimacy of the duo setting embraces the spirituality and quietude of the selections with faultless ease.
P.J. Perry is one of Canada’s jazz greats. A three-time Juno winner, Perry and his alto saxophone have been under the spotlight for more than forty years. P.J. has also performed with the Edmonton Symphony (P.J. Perry and The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra), the Calgary Philharmonic, the Alberta Pops Orchestra, the Hamilton Philharmonic, and the Symphony Orchestras of Montreal, Kitchener-Waterloo, Vancouver and Victoria.
Toronto native Doug Riley has been a pillar of the Canadian musical scene since the early 1960’s. He is widely recognized for his composing and arranging skills, as well as his performances, with an impressive and diverse group of musicians and organizations, including Placido Domingo, Ofra Harnoy, The National Ballet of Canada, Michael Burgess and many others. He’s appeared on recordings with Ray Charles, David Clayton-Thomas, The Brecker Brothers, Bob Seger, Ringo Starr, Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray, Moe Koffman and Trudy Desmond.
