Album Details

Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca has been described as "the most promising and important talent in Cuban music." Fonseca had the good fortune to have met with Ruben Gonzalez, Ibrahim Ferrer, Omara Portuondo, Cachaito Lopez, Guajiro Mirabal, Manuel Galban, all of the Buena Vista Social Club, and was later invited to per¬form with them. In 2001 he was invited to replace Ruben Gonzalez in the Ibrahim Ferrer Orchestra and in 2002 he joined Omara Portuondo's band and was featured at the Tokyo Jazz Festival, sharing the stage with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and the late Michael Brecker. A great live performer, Roberto shows a virtuosic, fiery, eclectic, at times nearly orchestral approach to the piano. In Ferrer's words: "Boy, can the kid play!" A mixture of Cuban soul and jazz history, Fonseca's piano artistry includes unbelievable high-energy runs on the keyboard, a trace of Monk's angularity and a fine sense for poetic melodies.

"Remarkably fluid Roberto Fonseca, backing Ferrer"
- LOS ANGELES TIMES, USA

"Roberto Fonseca, the band's young pianist, is a revelation and alone is worth the ticket price"
- EVENING STANDARD, UK
