Album DetailsSinger and songwriter Susi Hyldgaard has, with the help of Dickon Hinchcliff (Tindersticks) and Steve Argüelles, created a very personal and touching album. Recorded in London, Paris and Copenhagen, Blush is Hyldgaard's fourth recording and the first to be released in North America.
While her previous recordings were well received both in and outside her native Denmark, Blush is undeniably her finest and most personal effort to date, and signals the arrival of an innovative new voice in music. The release also offers two bonus tracks, remixes created by DJ Opiate (Björk) and Matthew Herbert. In the past Hyldgaard has drawn inspiration from such artists as Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, Bach and Debussy, but in recent years the electronic/acoustic scene has also caught her attention—particularly the work of Massive Attack, Moloko and Lambchop. When not touring with her own band, Hyldgaard has performed duo concerts in France and Denmark with the late bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and with trombonist Nils Landgren. She's composed film scores—finding work with directors a pleasant change from performing—and even worked with Michael Mantler on his version of novelist Paul Auster's "Hide and Seek", which has been performed as a play in Copenhagen and Berlin. The music to the same was then released on ECM records, featuring Robert Wyatt in addition to Hyldgaard.
