To quote that famous Welsh tune celebrating the holiday season, “Ring pipes and trumpets / Since it’s joy that we bring”. A decade after Noël en harmonie, the three musketeers of the Montreal jazz scene are back with a timeless bouquet of holiday-season classics. From the famous “Christmas Song” to the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” to the sadly apropos “Happy X-Mas (War is Over)”, these new interpretations display a happy mix of swing and relaxation, of humour and creativity, which call to mind both Brubeck and Guaraldi, but which ultimately bear the stamp of Donato, Leduc and Provençal. My advice? Slip the CD into the player, dim the lights and pour yourself a little eggnog.     Stanley Péan / Writer, music lover
