Angèle Arsenault

Angèle was born to a family of musicians, it was in this environment, with thirteen brothers and sisters that she learned to play the guitar and piano. In 1963 she made her performing debut in Moncton, and later Quebec City, where she completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree. After teaching for one year, she decided to pursue a career as a singer and songwriter. To this end, she toured the country several times, playing wherever she could. In 1975, she settled in Montreal and recorded her first album. The following year, she recorded and released an album in English, which prompted one critic to remark hat she was "the best thing since sliced bread..." Her second French-language album, Libre, released in 1977, sold 300 000 copies. It was this album that earned her a place in the hearts of the people of Quebec (and in the record charts!).

Three more successful albums followed Libre, it was a period of sold-out shows, awards and tremendous success. After taking time off to re-assess her life and career, Angèle found herself interested in a new medium - radio. For two years, radio filled her life, but the desire to resume her career, as singer songwriter never left her. In 1988, she presented herself once-again to her beloved public with new songs that displayed profound warmth and maturity, as well as the humor and energy for which she was already known. Despite this return to the spotlight, her public had to wait until 1994 before they could get their hands on a new recording, which turned out to be Transparente.
